Nolan's aviation journey began in 1972 when he joined the Civil Air Patrol as a cadet, marking the initiation of his passion for aviation. Following his graduation from Philadelphia’s Olney High School in 1975, he earned a scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh. Nolan then enrolled in Detachment 729 of the United States Air Force’s ROTC, where he excelled and became a member of the Arnold Air Society, ultimately commanding the detachment’s “A” flight.
Graduating with a major in General Studies and a minor in Aerospace Studies from the University of Pittsburgh, Lieutenant Jones entered Undergraduate Pilot School in 1980, embarking on a fulfilling career in aviation. Serving in the Air Force Reserve, Nolan received an Honorable Discharge in 1987.
Nolan's aviation career continued to soar as he worked as a Jet Pilot for the American Eagle Airline, where he served as Captain for both domestic and international routes aboard the Embraer Jet.
